JANUARY 15, 2013 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—Local government officials and staff, especially application preparers, are encouraged to attend one of three free application workshops detailing the 2013 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding process for the CDBG categories of Comprehensive Revitalization, Downtown Revitalization, Planning, Public Works and Water/Wastewater offered in January and February (based on interest).
A new category this year is Comprehensive Investment and Stabilization (CIS) that provides CDBG funding help to municipalities, populations 5,000-less than 20,000. Phase I consists of a needs assessment and strategic plan. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) then invites communities completing strategic plans to submit applications for Phase II, a three-years of CDBG funding to implement the strategic plan’s public works and housing activities benefitting low-and moderate-income persons within a neighborhood, or community-wide.

JANUARY 9, 2013 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $501,905 Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds (NAHTF) to the City of Norfolk to rehabilitate, convert and/or reconstruct two single-family and five multi-family units at several downtown locations along West Norfolk Avenue.
Eligible participants are those earning incomes at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Family Income.

DECEMBER 28, 2012 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—The cities of Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Norfolk and North Platte will split $94,500 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding in the Community Revitalization category. Grants are administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development from the state’s annual allocation of CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

DECEMBER 21, 2012 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $98,500 in 2012 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) second cycle Planning funding to four communities with ongoing planning efforts.
The grants are all part of Nebraska’s annual allocation of CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Funds are administered by DED.
